About Kratom
Kratom, Mitragyna Speciosa
Kratom, also known as Mitragyna speciosa, is a leafy tree native to Southeast Asia. For centuries its leaves have been chewed by workers and laborers to overcome the tedious burdens of everyday work. Historically, Kratom has been respected as an all-natural and effective opiate alternative. The main active alkaloids in the leaf are mitragynine, mitraphylline, and 7-hydroxymitragynine. The effects of these alkaloids can vary greatly depending on quality of leaf, extraction methods, and dosages. In small doses the effects are stimulating and up-lifting similar to coffee. However, with higher dosages the effects are relaxing and even sedative. Moderate doses of Kratom usually last 2-4 hours with residual effects possibly lasting longer. Kratom is available in many forms such as dried leaf, powder extracts, and liquid extracts.
